Hello everyone! This is your Captain writing 😊
My name is Alina and I will be your guide through all the beautiful places I have been to. I have been blogging since 2007, starting on Blogspot and moved on WordPress. I have paused this hobby for many years, as my job was taking more time than it should ☹
I have resumed my passion for writing approximately two years ago, when I started a full blog dedicated to Crete (my second home). This is why you will see a lot of posts about this wonderful island (as they will be imported from the previous website) and a Menu Page dedicated to it.
However, with “New Year, New Resolutions” I have decided to shift gears and write also about other beautiful countries, places and experiences, as they deserve their rightful place in the online world. And here we are 😊
I hope that here you will find useful information, with as much details I can provide about the must see attractions and those off the beaten path.
What you will find here:
- A short history, from the first archaeological discoveries to modern day for countries, cities and places
- A little bit of geography, to know what to expect – type of terrain, climate, weather, natural phenomena
- Cultural information – what you need to know before you get there, local customs and traditions, public holidays, things the locals love and what they find offending
- Economic, social and safety information – currency, language, type of payment preferred (cash or card), safety index, healthcare, cost of living, human development index
- Infrastructure & communications – means of transportation, airports, ports, on which side of the road they drive and info about network operators, wi-fi speed
- Legal information – political regime, entry conditions, visas, restrictions and unique or general laws, traffic law and penalties
- Tips & tricks to make your holiday planning much easier, such as what outlet plug you need in a specific country, where to get tickets to tourist attractions, etc.
- General information about aviation, booking tips and safety – why are flights delayed, lost luggage, when and where to buy tickets, how much time do you need for a connecting flight, biggest airports, low costs vs flag carriers, etc.
- Any other piece of information I might find useful but others find confusing – EU vs Schengen, for example
- Any “Good to know before you go” information
Thank you and stay tuned 😊
