Rules:
The below rules apply to all flights, no matter the airline
- DO NOT SMOKE CIGARETTES, HEATED TOBACCO OR VAPE!!! This is considered a criminal offense as the smoke detectors can shut down the engines. Any smoke in the cabin is considered a threat to the passengers’ safety and the pilots must perform emergency landing. You wouldn’t want a police officer to wait for you at the airport and start asking questions 😊. Also, you will be forever banned to fly with that specific airline.
- DO NOT TAKE ANY ANXIETY MEDICATION BEFORE FLIGHT! This means Xanax, Valium or any other of the type. I understand you might feel anxious or frightened, but taking these before flight is not a good idea. Anything can happen during the flight and in case of emergency evacuation the crew will have to take care of you as well.
- Set your phone and tablet to Airplane Mode and keep it like this for the entire duration of the flight, until disembarking.
- Be nice and polite with the cabin crew.
- DO NOT TOUCH the cabin crew! DO NOT MAKE any jokes with hidden meaning, flirt, touch their backs (below waistline) or their legs as they do their duty! Airline policies have zero tolerance for this type of harassment and the cabin crew will inform the captain. Through radio police will be warned and you will be the first or the last to disembark, joined by a police officer.
- Always follow the Seatbelt on sign! Once it is switched on by the captain, you must remain seated and you cannot use the toilet during that time.
- There are three critical stages of the flight – take off, landing and taxi. This is when you should remain seated with the seatbelt fastened
- Pay attention to the security instructions provided by the cabin crew
- Turbulences can occur at any time and it is recommended to keep your seatbelt fastened for the entire duration of the flight
- For any help you might need, please inform the cabin crew
- Some airlines do not allow to charge your phone during the flight. Pay attention to the passenger announcements.
- Do not change your seat.
- Large cabin bags (trolleys or large backpacks) must be placed in the overhead compartment, small bags (purse, backpacks and duty free bags) must be placed under the seat in front of you.
- Be careful when opening the overhead compartment. Some items might have displaced during take off and landing and they might fall.
- Cabin crew is not obliged to help you put your large cabin bag in the overhead compartment. If you cannot do it by yourself, ask another passenger to help.
- Once landed, DO NOT STAND UP! Wait until the captain switches off the seatbelt sign and then proceed to take your cabin bag and disembark. The doors will not open earlier if you stand up.
Tips & tricks
- DO NOT book a seat next to an emergency exit if it’s your first time flying. In case of emergency, you must help with the evacuation of the passengers. Also, DO NOT book those seats if you are pregnant, have mobility issues or you are travelling with children!
- Have a hoodie or a sweater with you, as the temperature is usually kept between 20-22 degrees Celsius.
- During takeoff, climbing, descent and landing your ears will give you the same feeling you have when you drive through a mountain area or, as I call it, the “underwater feeling”. This is because of the change in pressure and altitude and it is perfectly normal. I still feel it after so many flights. One harmless way to “pop” your ears is to swallow your saliva. Have at hand chewing gum, jellies, lollipops or sour candies, anything that stimulates salivation. All these trigger the “eating” receptor in our brain and the mouth starts to produce more saliva, as it does with normal food in the eating process.
- DO NOT remove your shoes or go to the toilet barefoot. The liquid on the floor is not only water 😉
- Please be considerate and do not start to clip or file your nails, drink with loud slurps, eat garlic bread that you brought from home or do anything that might bring discomfort to other passengers.
- Use headphones for inflight entertainment or when watching your favourite TV series or movie on your tablet or phone.
- Some airlines provide free wi-fi during the flight. Please use it only for text and surf, not for videocalls
- If you have special meal requirements (such as vegetarian, halal, kosher, gluten free, lactose free, etc), PLEASE INFORM THE AIRLINE with at least 24hrs before the flight so that they can accommodate your needs. Otherwise they might not be able to fulfill your request.
- On a long haul flight, bring a neck pillow and a blanket
- If you are travelling with kids, make sure they have enough entertainment for the flight. They are full of energy, but they must remain seated and with their seatbelt on during take-off, landing and taxi and when the sign is switched on. Also make sure that they do not make other passengers uncomfortable – punching or playing with the seat in front of them, annoying other passengers, etc.
- If you travel with small kids, have their pacifier at hand during takeoff and descent as their ears will pop. For older kids, consider chewing gum, lollipops, candies or sour jellies.
